METL 2405 - Atmospheric Corrosion Control

Credit Hours: 4
Contact Hours - Lecture: 3 Lab: 3
An in-depth study of atmospheric corrosion control by coatings which includes surface preparation, coating selection, coating application, inspection, and failure analysis.
Prerequisite: METL 1313  and METL 2441
Student Learning Outcomes
1 - Identify the mechanisms utilized by coatings to control corrosion. 2 - Select appropriate coating materials for specific corrosion applications. 3 - Determine the appropriate surface preparation and application procedures required for common coating materials. 4 - Demonstrate the ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain coating inspection instruments. 5 - Recognize common coating failures and determine the causes.
